In addition, Chef Kristi was named as one of Seattle Magazine's 2021 Most Influential People and as an Emerging Chef Semifinalist for the 2021 James Beard Awards. Since its opening in December of 2020, Communion Restaurant and Bar has garnered praise from the likes of Condé Nast to The New York Times. It is a nod, an acknowledgment, to where she comes from a treasure trove of food memories that connect her family and self to their legacy. Seattle Soul tells the story of a marriage between love for people, the cultures, and the food that’s nurtured and influenced her. Influenced by the different neighborhoods in Seattle, she cultivated her very own style of cooking – Seattle Soul. Chef Kristi was born and raised in Kansas City but grew up in Seattle. ![]() At the beginning of COVID-19, she launched a community kitchen named after her mantra, “Everybody Gotta Eat.” In 2020, she opened the highly acclaimed Communion Restaurant and Bar with her business partner and son, Damon Bomar, right in the heart of the Central District in Seattle.
